The famous garden created by Vita Sackville-West and her husband, Sir Harold Nicolson, between the remains of an Elizabethan mansion. Study and library also open. Tower with views. Woodland and lakes walks. Restaurant for lunches and light refreshments. Tel. 01580 710700.

Direct bus: from station to Garden 25 March to 30 Sept 2007 on Tue, Fri, Sun & BH only. Tue & Fri: from station at 1125 and 1325, return from Garden at 1540 and 1735. Sun & BH: from station at 1045 and 1240, return from Garden at 1530 and 1730. 15 minutes journey.
Bus: 5 from near station to Sissinghurst village, then 1¼ mile walk. M-S hourly, 12 minutes journey. Traveline tel. 0871 200 2233.

Smallhythe Place NT - by bus
Ellen Terry's early 16th century house and cottage gardens. The grounds include the Barn Theatre. Tel. 01580 762334.

Direct bus: from station 25 March to 30 Sept 2007 on Sun & BH only. Bus from station at 1240 arrives Smallhythe Place 1320, return bus from Smallhythe Place at 1445 reaches the station at 1545. These buses also call at Sissinghurst Castle Garden (see above). Buses also operate from Rye.
