Kew Bridge Steam Museum - ¼ mile
The world's largest collection of steam pumping engines. The engines are in steam every weekend. A 'Water For Life' gallery explains the story of London's water supply from Roman times to the present day. Steam railway (operating Mar-Nov, Sun & BH only). Café open at weekends. Tel. 020 8568 4757.
Open*: Daily 1100-1700, it is best to visit SSu & BH when the engines are in steam.

Musical Museum - ½ mile
Automatic musical instruments from musical boxes to a Wurlitzer cinema organ. Live demonstrations. Tel. 020 8560 8108.
Open*: Apr-Oct, SSu 1400-1700. Special arrangements apply while the Museum relocates to a new building, please see the website for the latest information.

Royal Botanic Gardens - ½ mile to Main Gate
Over 300 acres of trees, shrubs, flowers and many rare plants. Exotic glasshouses including the Princess of Wales Conservatory with ten climatic zones. Museums. Restaurant and tea chalet. Tel. 020 8332 5655.

Kew Palace (in Royal Botanic Gardens) - ¾ mile
Built in 1631, this is the smallest of the royal palaces. It was used by members of the royal family from 1728 until the death of Queen Charlotte in 1818. Tel. 0870 7515179. Kew Palace is in the Royal Botanic Gardens and cannot be visited separately.
