The Poppy Line, North Norfolk Railway
A 5 mile standard gauge size steam railway to Weybourne, Kelling Heath and Holt, passing through some of
North Norfolk's most beautiful countryside. The Poppy Line uses Sheringham's original station.

Sheringham Park NT - 1½ miles (2 to main entrance) or by bus
A landscape park designed in 1812 by Humphry Repton. Woodland garden with rhododendrons and azaleas.
Waymarked walks and viewing towers with stunning views of the coast and countryside.

For the easiest walk through the Park take a bus to the main entrance, call at the Visitor Centre for a
map and walk gently downhill towards Sheringham Hall and the Gazebo. Leave the Park near Upper Sheringham for a
bus back to Sheringham or a 1½ mile walk to the station.
Cley Marshes Nature Reserve - by bus
This coastal reserve of reedbeds, pools and wet grassland has an international reputation as a
birdwatching site. The Visitor Centre has an excellent view across the marsh to the sea. Birdwatching hides.

Morston Marshes and Blakeney Point NT - by bus, then ¼ mile to Morston Quay
The marshes are a maze of creeks, mudflats and saltings supporting maritime plants such as sea lavender
and attracting many waders and wildfowl.
Blakeney Point is a 3½ mile long sand and shingle spit opposite the marshes. It forms an important bird
sanctuary with colonies of breeding terns and rare migrants passing through. Seaside plants and seals can also be seen.
Access to Blakeney Point is by ferry from Morston Quay or Blakeney Quay (or a 3½ mile walk from Cley).
There is a small Information Centre and Observation Gallery at Morston Quay, admission free.

A 10¼" narrow gauge railway beside Beach Road running ¾ mile from Wells Harbour to the
Pinewoods Caravan Site (for the beach and Lifeboat Station). Frequent trains, every 15 minutes at busy times.

Wells Lifeboat Station - by bus, then 1¼ miles
Wells Lifeboat Station was established because of the frequency with which vessels ran aground on the outlying
sands. It was the last station to use horses for launching, until 1934. The present boathouse, at the entrance to
Wells Harbour, was modified in 1990 to house a lifeboat, launching tractor and inflatable lifeboat.

An 18th century Palladian style mansion set in a 3000 acre park with fallow deer and a large lake.
A magnificent Entrance Hall of English alabaster leads to State Rooms contain paintings, original furniture

The NT looks after an extensive area of saltmarsh, intertidal mud and sandflats which are particularly
good for watching birdlife. The area includes the site of the Roman fort of Branodunum.
